Description
Description
A well-preserved Czechoslovakian-manufactured Slovakian Army VZ 24 bayonet, measuring 450 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 300 mm-long magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip, sharpened lower edge, and with fullers running the length of each side. The obverse ricasso is stamped with a mark of “ČSZ N”, indicating manufacture by the Czechoslovakian Arms Factory (Československá Zbrojovka) of Brno. It sits securely within a crossguard featuring an insertion hole, secured together with dual rivets. The handle grip is composed of two pieces of dark wood, fastened together with two magnetic metal rivets. Inset into the obverse post-manufacture is a coppered bronze insignia consisting of a raised Slovak Cross, measuring 18 mm in diameter. It completes with a pommel featuring an insertion slot, rendered non-functional by the placement of a piece of wood, and a functional push-button catch. The pommel is stamped with a mark of “HVHG”, indicating Slovakian Army General Headquarters. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the side of the shaft, securing in place a period original leather frog, secured into a belt loop with heavy stitching. The former is wrapped with a period original brown cotton-blended portepee, completing in a stylized acorn with a red felt centrepiece. The scabbard hook is stamped with marks indicating Czechoslovakian manufacture in 1929. Issues consistent with age and use are evident, and include some oxidation of the metal features, as well as loss of paint to the scabbard. The bayonet is in an overall better than very fine condition.
