(Serbian Cyrillic: Орден Белог орла, romanized: Orden Belog orla). Instituted in 1883. Type II (1903-1941 Issue). Model II with swords. In silver, consisting of a double headed eagle in white enamel, topped by two crossed swords and a crown suspension, the obverse center bearing the royal cipher, the reverse center bearing the year 1882, inclusive of its suspension 64 mm (h) x 32 mm (w), weighs 24.37 grams, on original ribbon, very minor enamel flaws, extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Order was instituted 23 January 1883 by King Milan I of Serbia. It was awarded for special achievements in service of the Serbian nation, state, or Crown, and was available in 5 classes. The War Merit Division of the Order, with crossed swords between the Royal Crown and eagle's heads, was introduced in 1915 and conferred for conspicuous bravery of the officers in the field. In the period between 1883 and 1898 Order of the White Eagle was the highest award in the Kingdom of Serbia.
