Description
(Orden Belog Orla). Instituted February 22 1881 by King Milan I. Type II (1903-1941). Civil Division. In silver gilt, a lovely Order of the White eagle, constituting a white enamelled double headed bird, the obverse medallion in silver gilt features a white enamelled cross on a red enamelled field, the reverse presents the year 1882 on a red enamelled field, surmounted by a section of blue enamelled pendelia and a surmounting crown, measures 33.2mm (w) x 68.1mm (h – inclusive of cross adorned ball suspension), weighs 26.0 grams (including ribbon), enamel repair to cross on obverse medallion, loss of enamel to reverse medallion, ribbon discoloured, otherwise in very fine condition
. Contained in an original case presenting a crème coloured leatherette exterior, the lid inscribed БЕЛИ ОРАО V., the interior features a crème coloured recessed velvet medalbed, the lid is a silk with the maker mark HUGUENIN FRERES & Co LE LOCLE (Suisse), light wear, in overall very fine condition.
Footnote: The Order of the White Eagle was introduced by King Milan I on January 23, 1883 (Russian method of dating) to commemorate the restoration of the kingdom of Serbia, proclaimed on February 22, 1882 in Belgrade. After 1922, the production was assumed by Huguenin Freres.
