(Orden Takovskog Krsta). Instituted in 1865. In silver gilt with red, white, blue and green enamels, cypher of Mihailo Obrenović III on the obverse, well hallmarked on below crown on integral suspension with "A" for Vienna, lions head denoting silver fineness of .750 used between 1867 - 1922, maker marked "K F" (Karl Flaischacker, Vienna) as well as on the ring, measuring 42 mm (w) x 72.5 mm (h - inclusive of its crown and laterally-pierced ball suspension),with light crazing evident in the white enamels on the arms at 9 and 12 o'clock on the obverse, chipping in the red enamels on the reverse centrepiece, on its mid 20th Century neck ribon, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Cross of Takovo was instituted in the Principality of Serbia in 1865 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire, which had started in Takovo, Serbia. The decree that established the Cross and Silver Medal was signed on May 22, 1865 by Mihailo Obrenović III, Prince of Serbia. The Order was suppressed in 1903.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
