Schaumburg-Lippe and Saxe-Meningen. A Faithful Service Cross and Women’s Merit Cross, c.1915

Schaumburg-Lippe, Principality. A Faithful Service Cross of 1914, (Kreuz für Treue Dienste 1914). Instituted 18 November 1914 by Prince Adolph. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension, consisting of a Geneva Cross, the obverse bearing a central monogram of Prince Adolph, the arms bearing an inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE 1914” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE 1914”), reverse plain, unmarked, measuring 35.78 mm (w) x 40.66 mm (h), missing ribbon, light wear, in near extremely fine condition.

Saxe-Meiningen. A Woman’s Merit Cross, c. 1914, (Orden für Verdienste von Frauen und Jungfrauen in der Kriegsfürsorge). Instituted March 3, 1915.  In Bronze gilt, a george cross encircled by a wreath, the center medallion bearing a triple C monogram, the reverse centre medallion features a Saxon coat of arms and the circle around the cross features the inscription ‘FÜR VERDIENST IM KRIEGE 1914/15’ (‘for merit in war’), surmounted by a crown and suspension loop, measures 28.8mm (w) x 45.7mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
