Saxony, Kingdom. A Mint Honour Badge for 25 Years of Fire Brigade Service, with Case, by G.A. Scharffenberg

(Ehrenzeichen für Mitglieder der Feuerwehren für 25 Jahre mit Etui). Instituted 11 May 1885 by King Albert. (1885-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with silver consisting of bronze base embroidered with a period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a silver Saxon coat of arms, situated within a gilded bronze frame featuring a fireman’s helmet and equipment flanked by laurel and oak leaves, the reverse with a barrel hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 42 mm (w) x 34 mm (h), accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a white satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former maker marked “G.A. SCHARFFENBERG, JUWELIER, DRESDEN”, with a slotted red velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, measuring 65 mm (w) x 50 mm (l) x 32 mm (h), a striking original set produced by Saxony’s noted court jeweller, in near mint condition.
