Description
Hardcover, with a black and orange printed paper finish, clear dust jacket, entitled "Russian Orders, Decorations and Medals including those of Imperial Russia, The Provisional Government, The Civil War and the Soviet Union, Second Edition" by Robert Werlich, copyrighted by the author in 1981, published by Quaker Press of Washington, District of Columbia, printed in the United States of America. It begins with an Acknowledgements, followed by a two page Introduction and a List of Definitions. The first section of the book deals with Imperial items, including: Imperial Orders, Bokhara, Georgia, Imperial Decorations, Imperial Medals, Provisional Jettons and Imperial Badges. The second section features Table Medals and is divided into two categories: Imperial Table Medals and Russian Rulers Series Table Medals. The third section encompasses awards issued during the Russian Civil War period. The fourth and final section handles the Soviet Union, including: Ribbons, Orders, Decorations, Medals, Regulations for their Wearing, along with Medals Added After the First Edition (up until 1980). Each award is named, their metal content detailed including any enameling, with the date instituted, why and to whom they were issued, their size given, the color and style of ribbon stated (if applicable), along with English translations of any Russian text appearing on the awards, plus any pertinent historical information. In regards to the Table Medals, both the obverse and reverse of each are illustrated. Most of the illustrations are in black and white, however, many of the Imperial Orders and Badges, along with the Soviet Orders are illustrated in color. It concludes with a Bibliography and a two page Index. The book contains 168 pages of text (all of which is in English) and photographs printed in black ink, with 38 pages of color plates inserted between pages 1 and 16, 67 and 72, 115 and 130 (some of the images colorized from black and white), on a coated white paper stock, measuring 220 mm (w) x 287 mm (h) x 12 mm (d). It exhibits light wear on the upper corners on both the front and back covers, along with scuffing on the clear dust jacket, however, the pages contained within remain unaffected. Near extremely fine.
