Description
(Орден Святой Анны). Instituted on 14 February 1735 by Charles Frederick, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp. Consisting of a Cross Pattée with red enamelled arms inside a Gold frame, with ornate gilt designs joining the quadrants of the arms, the obverse center presents a hand-painted depiction of Saint Anne, the reverse with a central white enamelled medallion with blue Latins script initials “A.I.P.F” for “ANNA IPERATORIS PETRI FILIA” (“ANNA, EMPEROR PETER’S DAUGHTER”), marked HA under the enamel of the reverse 12 o’clock arm, marked “56” for 14kt Gold purity on the integral suspension ring, measuring 43.46 mm (w) x 48.35 mm (h), weighing 15.40 grams, on loop for suspension and accompanied by two segments of neck ribbon, otherwise in near extremely fine condition.
Contained in original Russian case, a red enamelled case with Russian eagle on the exterior lid, the interior with creme coloured silk and velvet medal bed, ribbon storage compartment underneath, measures 65 mm (w) x 90 mm (h) x 28 mm (d), working clasp, light wear to the edges, in very fine condition.
