Russia, Imperial. An Order Of Saint Stanislaus In Gold, I Class Grand Cross With Swords, By Eduard, C.1914

(Орден Святого Станислава). Instituted 1765. (House of Romanov). Military Division. A large and impressive Gold sash badge, consisting of a red enameled Maltese cross with ball finials, swords in each quadrant overlaid with a Russian Imperial Eagle, each eagle adorned by the Russian crown and presenting a shield with St.George, obverse centre presenting a hand painted "SS" on white enamel (Saint Stanislaus) with a green laurel surround on Gold, reverse exhibiting Gold arms as well as a white enameled centre and hand painted "SS" in red, a well marked award including a zolotniki fineness number "56" (14K Gold) on integral ring, kokoshnik assay mark on reverse of sword hilts, integral ring and elongated suspension loop, maker marked on reverse 12 o'clock arm BA and "ЗДУАРАЪ" on the reverse 6 o'clock arm denoting Eduard-VD (Varvara Dietwald) of St. Petersburg manufacture, measuring 63 mm (w) x 65 mm (h - inclusive of integral ring), with early 20th Century bullion thread strategically holding the 7 o'clock sword and eagle firmly in place, likely done by the recipient themselves, with minimal enamel wear, on period sash, extremely fine. Accompanied by the star of the order, in silver, consisting of eight distinctive arms, each composed of a cluster of individual smooth rays, with silver gilt swords overlaid, obverse centre extremely well executed, presenting a red enameled "SS" on white enamel (Saint Stanislaus), with silver gilt motto of the order in PRAEMIANDO INCITAT (Rewarding Ecourages) on white enamels, outer surround composed of silver gilt laurels on a green enamel background, reverse with principle pin assembly, thoroughly hallmarked including a kokoshnik assay mark on pin, reverse of 3 & 9 o'clock arms, a zolotniki silver fineness number "84" (875 Silver), and maker marked on back plate BA and "ЗДУАРАЪ" denoting Eduard-VD (Varvara Dietwald) of St. Petersburg manufacture, measuring 91.2 mm (w) x 90 mm (h), minor enamel contact, otherwise extremely fine.
