Russia, Imperial. A Medal for the Cessation of Land Border Disputes 1754, by Timofey Ivanov

Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing bust of Empress Elizabeth, circumscribed by name and title in Latin, the reverse bearing a female figure flanked by a measuring device and trampling on an individual holding a serpent, topped by an inscription of “ITEMUT DISCERNERET ARVIS” (“SO THAT THE DISPUTE MIGHT BE SETTLED OVER THE LANDS”), situated above an inscription of “POSITI AGRIS LIMITES D. XIII. MAY. MDCCLIV” (“ESTABLISHED THE LAND BOUNDARIES 13 MAY 1754”), the obverse maker marked with the logo of Timofey Ivanovich Ivanov, St. Petersburg, measuring 64.12 mm in diameter, weighing 100.4 grams, demonstrating some softening of features and edge bruising, a scarce example in better than very fine condition.
