Footnote: The Russia 1774 Peace with Turkey Silver Medal commemorates the conclusion of the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca, which ended the Russo-Turkish War (1768–1774). Issued during the reign of Catherine II of Russia, the medal celebrated a decisive Russian victory over the Ottoman Empire and the resulting expansion of Russian influence in the Black Sea region. The treaty granted Russia significant territorial and political advantages, including access to the Black Sea, the right to protect Orthodox Christians within Ottoman domains, and increased commercial privileges. Medals such as this were struck to mark the diplomatic triumph and to symbolize Russia’s emergence as a major power in southeastern Europe and the eastern Mediterranean.
