(Ordin Corona Romaniei). Instituted without swords on March 14th, 1881. Type I (1881-1941 issue). Consisting of a Maltese Cross in silver gilt with red and white enameled arms, and with gilded “C” ciphers in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central round red enameled medallion bearing the royal Romanian crown, surrounded by a white enameled ring inscribed with “Prin Noi Insine 14. Martie 1881” (By Ourselves - March 14th, 1881), the reverse with a similar red enameled medallion bearing the date “10. Maiu” in gilded lettering, surrounded by a white enameled ring inscribed with the dates “1866, 1877, and 1881” in gilt, on a double-looped ring for suspension from its period original neck ribbon, unmarked, measuring 61.2 mm (w) x 61.3 mm (l), with the gilt mostly worn off from age and wear, but with the enamels extremely well preserved, in near very fine condition.
