(Ordin "Steaua Romaniei"). Instituted in 1877. Type II (1932-1947). In silver with red, green and blue enamels, silver monogram of King Carol I on the obverse centrepiece, marked "MN" (Monetaria Nationala = National Mint) and flanked by "520" at the left and "42" at the right, along with a crown for .800 silver fineness, marked "SILBER" (silver) and maker marked "CFZ" (C.F. Zimmermann of Pforzheim, Germany) on the ring, measuring 50.5 mm (w) x 73.5 mm (h) inclusive of its crown suspension, crazing and chipping evident in the blue enamels on the obverse centrepiece ring, scattered chipping present in the green enamels on the wreath around the reverse centrepiece, the cross on the crown having been lost to time, on a replacement full-length military neck ribbon, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Star of Romania was instituted on May 10, 1877 and revised on May 9, 1932. It was Romania's highest civil Order and second highest State decoration after the defunct Order of Michael the Brave. It was originally awarded in six grades: Grand Cross with Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight, in three divisions: Military, and Military for War Merit.
