Prussia, Kingdom. An Order of the Red Eagle, IV Class Cross, by H. Zehn

(Roter Adler Orden, Kreuz IV. Klasse). Instituted 12 June 1792 by King Friedrich Wilhelm II. (1864-1918 issue). Constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, the obverse bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a hand-painted Prussian imperial eagle, the reverse overlaid by a central pebbled medallion bearing a raised monogram of King Friedrich Wilhelm II, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an eyelet and suspension ring retaining a period original tri-fold ribbon, the core maker marked between the three and six o’clock arms with the logo of H. Zehn, Berlin, measuring 39.87 mm (w) x 44.07 mm (h), weighing 20.2 grams, demonstrating minor flecking to the enamels with a consistent patina throughout the silver base, in addition to a soldered repair of the reverse nine o’clock arm of unknown purpose, in better than very fine condition.
