Prussia, Kingdom. A House Order Of Hohenzollern, Knight’s Cross With Swords, By Friedländer, C.1914

(Hausorden von Hohenzollern, Ritterkreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted 5 December 1841 by Prince Konstantin of Hohehzollern-Hechingen and Prince Karl Anton of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. (1867-1918 Issue). An extremely well-preserved House Order of Hohenzollern, Knight’s Cross with Swords, presenting as a silver gilt Ruppert Cross with white enameled arms, bordered in black enamel, over top of a green enameled laurel wreath, with a centre applique depicting a Hohenzollern-style Prussian imperial eagle in black enamel on a white enameled field, within a blue enameled ring inscribed with Order’s motto of “VOM FELS ZUM MEER” (“FROM THE CLIFFS TO THE SEA”), reverse with central white applique bearing gilt royal monogram surrounded by blue enameled ring inscribed “DEN. 18 IANUAR 1851”, on loop for suspension from hollow silver gilt crown with period original ribbon, measuring 39.46 mm (w) x 59.04 mm (h) with crown suspension and weighing 25.9 grams with ribbon attached; officially issued cross, marked "Fr 938" (Friedländer, and silver content) on the bottom arm, some wear evident to the enamels but otherwise in near extremely fine condition.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
