Prussia. An Order Of The Red Eagle, Civil Division, Iv Class With Crown, By Zehn, C.1910

(Roter Adlerorden). Recreated in Prussia in 1792. Civil Division with Crown. IV Type. 1892-1918 issue. An outstanding example of a stippled-armed cross Pattée in silver, the obverse with an enameled white medallion depicting a hand-painted enameled Brandenburg crowned eagle, the reverse etched by a fine crowned cipher of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, suspended by an enameled red royal crown, marked by maker’s mark of Zehn between the 3 o’clock and 6 o’clock arms, measuring 39.73 mm (w) x 58.14 mm (h - inclusive of crown suspension), with ring suspension on its period original IV class ribbon, presenting minor toned silver, otherwise extremely fine; accompanied by original presentation case of issue, constructed of red cardstock with corrugated finish, the interior lid in black silk lining, with a recessed, black velvet medal bed, with functional push clasp and elegant golden-framed interior, measuring 90 mm (w) x 22 mm (l) x 58 mm (h), presenting mild scuffing, overall near extremely fine condition.

Footnote: The Order of the Red Eagle was awarded to both military personnel and civilians, to recognize valor in combat, excellence in military leadership, long and faithful service to the kingdom, or other achievements. The Order could only be awarded to commissioned officers or civilians of approximately equivalent status. The Order is currently abolished.
