Oldenburg, Grand Duchy. A House and Merit Order of Peter Friedrich Ludwig, I Class Honour Cross with Swords

(Oldenburger Haus- und Verdienstorden Ehrenkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted 27 November 1838 by Grand Duke Paul Friedrich August. (1856-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN GOTT, EIN RECHT, EINE WAHRHEIT” (“ONE GOD, ONE RIGHTEOUSNESS, ONE TRUTH”), the reverse bearing a central raised Oldenburg coat of arms, unmarked, measuring 34.82 mm (w) x 39.46 mm (h), weighing 16.9 grams (inclusive of ribbon), demonstrating minor loss of gilt finish to the reverse with the remnants of a catalogue label from previous display visible to the ribbon, in extremely fine condition.
