Description

(De Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw). Instituted by King William I of the Netherlands on 29 September 1815. A finely crafted 18K Gold Maltese cross with white enamels and ball finials, stylized "W" in each quadrant representing King William I, obverse centre presenting a crowned Imperial Lion with sword, reverse centre in blue enamel presenting the order Motto Virtus Nobilitat, order adorned by finely made Royal crown which swivels on the ball finials of the 12 o'clock arm, well hallmarked on cross on horizontally pierced ball suspension and measuring 41.94 mm (w) x 61.58 mm (w), 15.8 grams, hallmarked with a lions head denoting Dutch Gold manufacture of small items 750-916/1000 from 1814-1906, centre pieces slightly loose, otherwise extremely fine.
