Mexico, Republic. An Order of the Aztec Eagle Grand Cordon Set

(Orden Mexicana del Águila Azteca). Instituted in 1933. The Grand Cordon Badge in brass, the obverse center bearing a golden eagle holding a rattlesnake in its beak, on a ceramic turquoise base, reverse pinback, 58.7 mm, worn on yellow sash, extremely fine. Accompanied by the Star of the Order, a ten-pointed brass star, mounted on a shield, the obverse center bearing a golden eagle holding a rattlesnake in its beak, on a ceramic turquoise base, reverse pin flanked by dual prongs, 60 mm in diameter, extremely fine. In its hardshell case, white satin interior lining, blue velvet medal bed, missing one latch, very fine.  

Footnote: The Order of the Aztec Eagle was established on 29 December 1933 and is the highest Mexican order awarded to foreigners in the country. It is awarded for services to the Mexican nation or to humanity, and it’s reciprocally given to Mexican public service providers living abroad.
