Kuwait, State: Kuwait Liberation Medal 1991, V Class (Wisam Al-Tahrir) (in bronze gilt with red, white, green and black enamels, measuring 40.5 mm in diameter, intact enamels, original ribbon with pinback, accompanied by its 38.8 mm (w) x 14.5 mm (h) ribbon bar with pinback, in its plastic case of issue, image of the medal in gold-coloured ink on the lid, maker marked "BERTONI MILANO - ITALY" on the inside lid, recessed medal beds for the medal and ribbon bar, the case placed within its cardboard sleeve); and Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait 1991 (Naut Tahrir al-Kuwait) (two-piece construction, in gilt and silvered metal, measuring 45.5 mm (w) x 50.3 mm (h), original ribbon with dual prong pinback, accompanied by its 37.3 mm (w) x 10 mm (h) ribbon bar with pinback, in its hardshelled case of issue, Saudi Arabian coat-of-arms in gold-coloured ink on the lid, inside lid padded and exhibiting the impression of the medal, recessed medal beds for the medal and ribbon bar, the case placed within its cardboard sleeve). Footnote: The Kuwait Liberation Medal was approved by the Kuwait Council of Ministers for award in five classes, generally according to the rank of the recipient. The medal was offered by the Chief of Staff of the Kuwait Armed Forces on July 16, 1994. The Fifth Class medal was intended for non-commissioned personnel. The Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait was instituted on January 4, 1991 by King Fahd ibn Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia and awarded to members of the Coalition Forces who participated in Operation Desert Storm and the Liberation of Kuwait between January 17, 1991 and February 28, 1991.
