Japan, Empire. An Order of the Sacred Treasure, I Class Star

(瑞宝章, Zuihōshō). Instituted in 1888. Type I (1888-2003). In silver gilt, an eight point star with clusters of white enamelled rays, separated by a single short blue ray, the obverse medallion featuring a silver flower on a blue enamelled field, encircled by a silver gilt ring along with eight small red glass cabochons and eight large discs with glass cabochons and synthetic stones, reverse bears a single pin with dual stays, measures 75.80 mm (w) x 76.12 mm (h), weighs 95.14 grams, marked M for the Osaka Mint under the catch, enamels are intact but show several hairline cracks on the 5 and 6 o’clock arms with a notable chip on the 6 o’clock arm, some gilt wear, extremely fine.
