Description
(旭日章, Kyokujitsu-shō) Institution Date: April 10, 1875 by Emperor Meiji. A Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, Third Class in silver with a red cabochon centerpiece and a white enamelled star, star is affixed to an enamelled Paulownia Flowers suspension consisting of three groupings of purple flowers with characters on the reverse, measures at 54mm (w) x 86mm (h-to the top of the suspension), on period neck ribbon with clasp, extremely fine. Accompanied by its rosette boutonniere measuring at 15mm, also remains extremely fine.
It is presented in its original black exterior case, with the top of the interior a purple cushioned fabric and the bottom a purple velvet medal bed, very fine.
Footnote: This Order is conferred by the Japanese Government in recognition of long meritorious service, or for outstanding civil or military merit. It is awarded exclusively to males, Japanese citizens and foreigners, and it is rarely awarded to anyone below the rank of Admiral.
