(旭日章 / Kyokujitsu_sho). Instituted April 10 1875. A lovely II Class set, comprising a neck badge, an eight-point star in silver with white, green, and violet enamels, a dark red cabochon center, the reverse identical to the obverse, measures 55.0 mm (w) x 86.1 mm (h - inclusive of Paulownia Flower suspension), includes neck ribbon, intact enamels, extremely fine condition. The star of the order, constructed of a silver star base, superimposed on an eight-pointed base in silver with a dark red cabochon center, three-prong pin back with Kanji in the center, measures 90.0 mm (w) x 88.3 mm (h), weighs 118.8 grams, enamels intact, minor contact marks, in extremely fine condition.
In its hard shelled case of issue, balsa wood frame, gilt characters on the lid, inside lid lined in violet satin and padded, base in violet satin, with a platform incorporating a recessed medal bed in violet felt, measures 198 mm (w) x 235 mm (h) x 47 mm (h), areas of tape residue in the exterior and interior, remains in extremely fine. The boutonniere, denoting II Class is within the case.
Accompanied by a modern purple scarf with white chrysanthemum symbol, of silk chirimen fabric, measures 72 cm x 65 cm, small tag along the edge, very fine.
