Description
In silver, presenting a cannon on the obverse, with two Japanese characters. The reverse bearing six Japanese characters. The medal is on its original period yellow ribbon with a hook and eye. It measures at 30mm in diameter and weighs 15.3 grams (including ribbon). In extremely fine condition.
Footnote: This medal was conferred upon Japanese individuals in recognition of contributions to the Coastal Defence Fund of 1887. The obverse Japanese characters translate to "Merit Medal". The reverse characters translate to "Support of the Continuing Enterprise". Only 572 of these silver medals were awarded through 1894.
