Italy, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown of Italy, Grand Cross Set

(Ordine della Corona d'Italia). Instituted in 1868. Consisting of the badge of the order, a white enamel cross with Savoy knots in each quadrant, the center medallion with a Lombardy Crown on blue enamels, reverse bearing a black enamelled eagle, measures 49.8 mm (w) x 53.7 mm (h - inclusive of integral ring), weighs 16.3 grams, accompanied by a full length, original sash, enamels intact, in extremely fine condition. 

The Star of the order, in silver featuring an eight point star with alternating faceted and smooth rays, the obverse medallion featuring a Lombardy Crown on a blue enamelled field, surrounded by a white enamel ring inscribed VICT. EMMAN. II . REX. ITALIAE. MDCCCLXVI, a black enamelled eagle on the 12 o’clock arm, the reverse with a vertical pin, measures 79 mm (w) x 79 mm (h),  enamels intact with the exception of a missing section of the blue enameled central field, otherwise in near extremely fine condition.
