Italy, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown of Italy, Grand Cross Set

(Ordine della Corona d’Italia). Instituted on February 20th, 1868. An Order of the Crown of Italy, Grand Cross Set, consisting of:

1. A Sash badge, constructed of gold and enamels, on a fixed ring for suspension from its period original sash ribbon, a white enameled cross with knots in the quadrants in-between the arms of the cross, the obverse center features a blue enameled field with a Lombardy crown with red, green and white enamel details, surrounded by a gold ring, the reverse medallion features a black enameled eagle with a red and white enameled shield on its chest, surrounded by a gold ring, marked “800” on the ring, measuring 51.3 mm (w) x 58.8 mm (l), weighing approximately 28 grams, in extremely fine condition. 

2. A Breast Star, cinstructed of silver and silver gilt and enamels, the obverse consisting of a seven-pointed star with rays between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central blue enameled field with a Lombardy crown with red, green and white enamel details, surrounded by a white enameled ring inscribed with “Vict. Emanu. II Rex Italie” and “MDCCCLXVI” in gilt letters, with a black imperial eagle at the twelve o’clock position bearing a red enameled cross on a white background on its chest, the reverse plain with a tall barrel hinge, vertical round wire pinback, and round wire catch, unmakred, measuring 89 mm (w) x 87.2 mm (l), weighing 70.82 grams, in extremely fine condition.
