(Ordine della Corona d’Italia). Instituted February 20th, 1868. (c. 1916 issue). Constructed of silver gilt, with blue, green, red, and white enamels, suspended from a fixed loop and swivel ring suspension from its period original and full length neck ribbon, consisting of a white-enameled gilt cross with gilt knots in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a blue enameled centerpiece bearing a royal crown constructed of white, green, and red enamels, surrounded by a gilt ring, the reverse features a gilt central medallion bearing a black enameled eagle with a red and white enameled shield on its chest, surrounded by a matching gilt ring, unmarked, measuring 50.7 mm (w) x 53.1 mm (l), the enamels on the obverse extremely well preserved with a small chip along the outer edge of the left arm, in better than very fine condition.
Accompanied by a presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core with a textured red faux leather exterior, the exterior of the lid embossed with the crowned monogram of Victor Emannual, with a functional exterior metal hinge and intact interior fabric hinge cover, the interior of the lid is lined with padded silk and embossed with “E. Gardino Succ, D. Cravanzola Gioielliere, Roma” in capital gilt letters, with a slot for placement of the ribbon and a recessed blue felted medal bed for placing of the award, measuring 84 mm (w) x 133 mm (l), in extremely fine condition.
