Italy, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown, Knight in Gold, c.1900

(Ordine della Corona d’Italia). Instituted February 20th, 1868. (c. 1900 issue). Constructed of 18kt Gold, with blue, green, red, and white enamels, suspended from a fixed loop and swivel ring suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a white-enamelled hollow construction Gold cross with Gold knots in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a blue enamelled centerpiece bearing a royal crown constructed of white, green, and red enamels, surrounded by a Gold ring, the reverse features a Gold central medallion bearing a black enamelled eagle with a red and white enamelled shield on its chest, surrounded by a matching Gold ring, unmarked, measuring 36.6 mm (w) x 39.6 mm (h), weighs 10.6 grams including ribbon, worn on original ribbon, small areas of enamel wear on the obverse crown, in extremely fine condition. 

Accompanied by a miniature of the order, a small white enamelled cross with blue, white, red and green enamels, bearing the same symbolism as the full size knight, measures 12.71 mm (w) x 14.11 mm (h), weighs 1.13 grams including ribbon, enamels intact, in extremely fine condition. 

Both contained in a red velvet case of issue, exterior lid marked U.B, interior marked Coltellis BOLOGNA on the lid, with a red velvet medal bed with recessions for both decorations, measures 95 mm (w) x 115 mm (h), 38 mm (d), hinge functional, light wear, extremely fine.
