Description
The Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (MVSN, "Voluntary Militia for National Security"), commonly called the Blackshirts; the General's dagger, with nickel plated fittings and blade (other Officers and NCO's had blade and fittings in chemically blue finish). The overall length of dagger is approximately 33cm (or 13 inches); blade is nickel plated, 21cm in length, unmarked, in extremely fine condition. Cross guard is nickel plated, and of plain design; the grip is constructed of black synthetic covering over the wooden handle, secured by the two rivets. Pommel is plain, nickel plated. The scabbard is made of blackened steel (magnetic), without dents or scratches, showing moderate wear and use. Reverse has a steel section for belt attachment. In overall extremely fine condition, and very scarce.
Footnote: this dagger (one of 3) comes from the estate of the former Chief of Staff (initials M.C.) of the "Stato Maggiore della Milizia Confinaria", who died during WW2, due to illness contracted in the War, as a commanding Officer of the 137th Legion CCNN. (He was serving on the Balkans during WW2). Copy of his photo, obituary, and Italian Official Gazette listing his award will be provided to the buyer.
