Hungary, Kingdom. A Magyar Királyi Honvédség Colonel (Ezredes) M1908 Summer Tunic

An Austro-Hungarian Officer's Summer Field Blouse (Sommerbluse) for a Infantry Colonel (Ezredes). Examples of wartime summer tunics are vastly scarcer than the standard wool versions as they were heavily worn in combat, easily damaged, and often discarded. A high ranking officer's version such as this example would not have experienced the extensive and consistent rigors of frontline combat to the same extent as an enlisted man. A lightweight garment such as this, were heavily favored by high-ranking officers commanding operations in hot climates, such as the brutal summer campaigns on the Italian Front (Isonzo/Dolomites) or the Balkan campaigns.

Constructed of light weight linen weave, this "khaki" or brownish-drab hue is the result of late-WWI material scarcity. Featuring five button front, each with a gilt button, securely and period sewn in place. With four scalloped front pocket and three button cuffed sleeves (missing on right). The collar is well preserved with heavy bullion upon on grass-green backing denoting the Infantry (Gyalogság), with three silver stars for the rank of Ezredes (Colonel). With matching shoulder boards, also on green felt backing. Measurements of 44 cm shoulder width, 64 cm sleeve length (shoulder to cuff edge), 73 cm in total length. 

A rare surviving example, the tunic remains very fine with only light soiling from use, no mothing and minor period wear. A excellent example.
