Hohenlohe, Principality. An Order of the Golden Flame, Breast Star in Gold, c.1850

(Hausorden von der Goldenen Flamme). Instituted on December 27 1757 by Prince Philipp Ernst I. A rare decoration, in silver an eight point star with clusters of five faceted rays, the central applique in gold, a superimposed Maltese cross with lightly pebbled arms, with flames between each arm, the central medallion presenting the inscription IN SENIO (In Old Age) on a blue enamelled field, surrounded by a textured gold ring, the reverse of the star bears a singular vertical pin assembly, unmarked by likely of Rothe manufacture, measures 71.73mm (w) x 72.40mm (h), weighs 41.8 grams, a beautiful and rare decoration, in extremely fine condition.
