Greece, Kingdom. An Order of the Redeemer, Commander, c.1920

(Τάγμα του Σωτήρος). Instituted on May 20th, 1833. Type II (1863-1924). In silver gilt, a white enamelled Maltese cross with a green enamelled laurel and oak wreath in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a circular central medallion bearing a delicately hand painted portrait of Jesus Christ, surrounded by a blue enamelled ring inscribed “Η ΔΕΞΙΑ ΣΟΥ ΧΕΙΡ ΚΥΡΙΕ ΔΕΔΟΞΑΣΤΑΙ ΕΝ ΙΣΧΎΙ” (Thy Right Hand, O Lord, is Majestic in Strength), the reverse with a blue enamelled circular central medallion bearing a white enameled Greek cross, surrounded by a blue enameled ring inscribed “Η ΕΝ ΑΡΓΕΙ Δ ΕΘΝΙΚΗ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ ΣΥΝΕΛΕΥΣΙΣ ΑΩΚΟ” (The Fourth National Assembly of the Hellenes at Argos - 1829), the cross is surmounted by a large hollow crown with a horizontally pierced ball and swivel ring for suspension from its period original full length neck ribbon, marked with a swan denoting French import since 1893 on the ring and the loop, measures 49.68 mm (w) x 78.11 mm (h - inclusive of crown suspension), weighs 61.66 grams (including ribbon), small chip in the obverse medallion, enamels otherwise intact, worn on full length original neck ribbon, in better than extremely fine condition.
