Type II (1935-1973) with Crown and Without Letters ""E-T-T-A"". Badge: bronze gilt phoenix insignia, mounted to a silver gilt and white enamelled cross base, marked ""925"" (silver) on the ring, measuring 59 mm (w) x 81 mm (h) inclusive of its crown suspension, on its original full-length sash; and Breast Star: bronze gilt phoenix insignia, mounted to an eight-pointed silver star base, marked ""925"" (silver) on the pin, measuring 82.7 mm (w) x 83 mm (h), vertical pinback flanked by dual prongs. Intact enamels, scattered gilt wear evident on both phoenix insignias, near extremely fine.

Footnote: The Order of the Phoenix is an order of Greece, established on May 13, 1926, by the republican government of the Second Hellenic Republic, to replace the defunct Royal Order of George I. The Order was retained by the revived Monarchy after 1935, and continues to be awarded by the current Third Republic. The Order is bestowed by the Greek government to Greek citizens who have excelled in the arts and literature, science, public administration, shipping, commerce, and industry. It is also awarded to foreigners who have helped raise Greece's international prestige. 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
