Greece, Kingdom. An Order of St. George I, Grand Officer Set by Souval, c.1930

(Βασιλικόν Τάγμα Γεωργίου Α'). Instituted January 16, 1915 by King Constantine I. Civil Division. A neck decoration, composed of silver gilt, featuring a white enamel Latin cross with a laurel wreath segment in each quadrant, the obverse center presenting a red enamel medallion with the royal cypher of George I, surrounded by a white enamel ring inscribed ΙΣΧΥΣ ΜΟΥΗ ΑΓΑΠΗ ΤΟΥ ΛΑΟΥ (The people’s love is my strength), the reverse is silver gilt with the dates the order was established in a ring (1915) and the years of the King’s reign 1863-1913, the badge is suspended from a large hinged silver gilt crown, measures 48.2 mm (w) x 83.6 mm (h – inclusive of crown suspension), weighs 49.12 grams, enamels intact, unmarked, remains in very fine condition.

A star of the Order, in silver, a four point silver star with smooth rays, the obverse medallion featuring a white enamel Latin cross with a laurel wreath segment in each quadrant, the obverse center presenting a red enamel medallion with the royal cypher of George I, surrounded by a white enamel ring inscribed ΙΣΧΥΣ ΜΟΥΗ ΑΓΑΠΗ ΤΟΥ ΛΑΟΥ (The people’s love is my strength), the reverse offers a vertical pin, measures 72.8 mm (w) x 73.0 mm (h), weighs 64.5 grams, enamels intact, lovely patina, very fine. 

Contained in the original case, exterior marked with crowned XI monogram, the interior lid marked RUDOLF SOUVAL, replacement green velvet bedding, measures 10.5 cm (w) x 21.5 cm (h) x 3 cm (d), functional hinge and clasp, light wear, very fine.
