Greece, Kingdom. A Superb & Unique European Military & Diplomatic Medal Bar

Undoubtably unique in its composition, this bar is presented as originally worn and includes a Medal for the Greco Turkish War 1912-13, instituted on 17 February 1914, in bronze, the obverse centre presents a Leopold cross with crossed swords between the arms and with a crown at its centre, the upper cross arm bearing the cipher of King George I, the lower arm bearing the cipher of King Constantine I, circumscribed in Greek letters for WITH GOD, FOR KING AND COUNTRY, the reverse presents the inscription ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ ΗΠΣΙΡΟC ΑΡΧΙΠΣΛΑΟC (Macedonia Epirus Archipelago), surrounded by a laurel wreath, maker marked G. IAKOVIDIS, measuring 30.17 mm in diameter, with integral crown suspension, on loop for suspension from period original ribbon for army personnel, displaying clasps for Elasson (Elassona), Sarantaporon (Sarantaporo), Gianitsa (Giannitsa), Ostrovon (Arnissa), Jannina (Ioannina), and in near very fine condition.

A Medal for the Greco Bulgarian War 1912-13, instituted on 17 February 1914, in bronze, the obverse centre presents the head of King Constantine I, circumscribed by ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ 1913 (Constantine King of the Hellenes 1913), the reverse presents the head of Emperor Basil II, circumscribed ΒΑCΙΛΕΙΟC Β 976-1025 (Basil II 976-1025), maker marked G. IAKOVIDIS, measuring 30.01 mm in diameter, on loop for suspension from period original ribbon for army personnel, displaying clasps for Kresna-Tsoumagia, Beles, and Kilkis-Lachana, and in good condition.

A Romanian Inspiration of the Land Medal (Medalia Avantul Tarii), instituted on 7 November 1913, in silver-plated bronze, the obverse centre presents an eagle holding a scepter and sword, with PACE written across its tail, with an effigy of King Carol I on its chest, surrounded by the inscription CAROL I - REGE AL ROMÂNIEI, surrounded by the inscription ÎN AMINTIREA ÎNĂLȚĂTORULUI AVÂNT 1913, the reverse centre displays a scene representing the passing of the Romanian army over the Danube, on a bridge of vessels, with the perspective of the Balkan Mountain with the sunrise, above floats the symbol of Victory, embodied by a woman holding a palm branch in the right hand and a crown of laurels, circumscribed with DIN CARPAȚI PESTE DUNĂRE LA BALCANI, measuring 32.87 mm in diameter, suspended by a ring with two laurel branches, attached to a bar to tie the ribbon, on period original ribbon, and in good condition.

A Hesse-Darmstadt Order of Philip the Magnanimous in Gold, I Class Knight (Orden Philipps des Großmüthigen, Ritterkreuz 1. Klasse), instituted on 1 May 1840, a white-enamelled cross pattée in 14K Gold, the obverse with a light blue enameled medallion bearing the leftward facing bust of Philip the Magnanimous in Gold, surrounded by a white enamelled ring inscribed SI DEUS NOBISCUM QUIS CONTRA NOS (If God is with us, who is against us) in Gold, the reverse with a light blue enamelled medallion bearing a rampant lion in multi-coloured enamels, surrounded by a ring of white enamels, inscribed LUDOVIUS III MAGN, DUX HASSIAE in Gold, measuring 40.10 mm (w) x 59.83 mm (h), on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, and in overall extremely fine condition.

An Austrian Order of the Iron Crown in Gold, III Class, by Rothe (Orden der Eisernen Krone 3. Klasse), instituted on 7 April 1815, constructed of 18K Gold, consists of the Lombard Iron Crown presenting green, red and white-enameled jewels, on which rests the two-headed Austrian eagle with sword and orb, with a blue enamelled central shield showing on the obverse the imperial initial F and on the reverse the year 1815, above rests the imperial crown firmly attached to the double-headed eagle, maker mark FR in diamond (denoting Rothe from mid-1880s) on ring and banner, Chamois head hallmark with number 3 and letter A (denoting gold fineness 18K) on ring and banner, measuring 29.36 mm (w) x 54.91 mm (h - inclusive of crown), suspended from a hollow swivel crown suspension from a horizontally pierced ball and flat suspension loop, with period original ribbon, and in extremely fine condition.

A Belgium Order of Leopold in Gold, Knight (Ordre de Leopold), instituted on 3 August 1832, constructed of Gold, a hollow ball-tipped Maltese Cross with elegant white enamels and golden edges, presenting a detailed enamelled green laurel wreath in each quadrant, surmounted by aplati royal crown suspension also in Gold, obverse centre consisting of a superposed Gold Belgium lion on an enamelled black background, surrounded by an enamelled red band inscribed L’ UNION FAIT LA FORCE (Strength in Unity) with decorated outsider golden ring, reverse presenting cypher of Leopold II (LL RR II) with ornamented black and red enamels, measuring 40.58 mm (w) x 65.90 mm (h - inclusive of its crown suspension), presenting loss of enamels on centre medallion and reverse medallion, presenting damage to the centre obverse lion, and in near very fine condition.

An Italian Order of the Crown in Gold, V Class Knight, by D. Cravanzola (Ordine della Corona d'Italia), instituted on 20 February 1868, constructed of Gold, a four-armed enamelled white cross, with interwoven ornamental laces in each quadrant, the obverse centre presents a superimposed golden Italian royal crown, over an enamelled dark blue background, the reverse presents a superimposed coat of arms of the Italian Kingdom with red, white, and black enamels, maker marked on edge of six o’clock arm with D. CRAVANZOLA, measuring 37.22 mm (w) x 40.58 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition.

An Order of the Star of Romania, Knight (Ordinul Steaua României). Instituted on 10 May 1877. Type 1C. (1877-1932 Issue). Military Division. A silver, blue-enamelled Romanian cross, with rays between the arms, on crossed swords, the obverse centre presents a Gold circular medallion bearing an eagle holding a lightning bolt in its claws, within a blue-enamelled ring, inscribed with IN FIDE SALUS (SALVATION LIES IN LOYALTY) encircled by a green-enamelled oak leaf wreath, the reverse centre presents a circular central red-enamelled medallion bearing the crowned cipher of King Carol I, surrounded by a green-enamelled oak leaf wreath, measuring 40.21 mm (w) x 63.10 mm (h - inclusive of crown), on a swivel crown suspension, from period original ribbon, presenting heavy enamel loss on obverse centre medallion and on reverse six o’clock cross arm and reverse centre, and in overall good condition.

A Montenegro King Nicholas I Fiftieth Jubilee Medal, constructed of bronze, engraver marked ST. SCHWARTZ on obverse, measuring 34.04 mm in diameter, light contact, on look for suspension from period original ribbon, and in good condition. All suspended from a medal bar with a non-magnetic core, backed with black rayon fabric, with horizontal pinback, measuring 18.9 cm (w) x 6.4 cm (h), and in overall very fine condition. Awards issued circa 1900-1918 period.
