Germany, Weimar Republic. A German Field Honour Decoration

(Deutsches-Feld-Ehrenzeichen mit Anstecknadel und Etui). Constructed of silvered and gilded bronze with enamels, the obverse consisting of an elongated eight-pointed radiant star, the obverse bearing a central oval medallion overlaid by a raised German soldier in Stahlhelm and full field gear, surrounded by a pebbled gilt border, in turn forming the centrepiece of a white enameled Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, etched with an inscription of “DEUTSCHES FELD-EHRENZEICHEN” (“GERMAN FIELD HONOUR BADGE”), with a block hinge and U-shaped vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, marked “HAMBURG 3”, measuring 52.55 mm (w) x 64.00 mm (h), weighing 29.7 grams, demonstrating fine cracking to the enamels of the three, nine, and twelve o’clock arms, in addition to some loss of finish to the base metal, in very fine condition.
