Constructed of silvered and gilded bronze with white enamels, consisting of an eight-pointed radiant star, the obverse overlaid by an elongated white enameled Cross Pattėe with a central oval medallion bearing a raised Heer soldier, within a gilded and pebbled ring, with crossed swords through the centre, the reverse with a block hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, marked “Deutsches Feld Ehrenzeichen, Hamburg 11” on the reverse, otherwise unmarked, measuring 52.5 mm (w) x 63.9 mm (l), weighing 30.88 grams, a hairline crack in the enamels of the 9 o’clock arm, with the majority of the gilt worn off, in overall very fine condition.
