Germany, Weimar Republic. A 1921 Upper Silesia Plebiscite Propaganda Medal, by Karl Goetz

(Volksabstimmung in Oberschlesien 1921 Medaille). Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised map of Silesia taking the form of a human face, with the border of German and Poland emphasized, flanked by an inscription of “DIE GRENZE SELBST MACHT FRONT GEGEN POLEN!” (“THE BORDER ITSELF IS A FRONT AGAINST POLAND!”), the reverse bearing a German national eagle in high relief, seeing off attackers embodying Poland and France, situated above an inscription of “DEUTSCHE MEHRHEIT” (“GERMAN MAJORITY”) and circumscribed by an inscription of “20. MÄRZ 1921 OBERSCHLESIEN” (the date of the Upper Silesian Plebiscite), the obverse engraver marked “K-G” for Karl Goetz, Augsburg, measuring 60 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
