Germany, Wehrmacht. An MG 42 Barrel Carrier

(Laufschützer 42). A rare Maschinengewehr 42 (MG 42) barrel carrier, constructed of a two-piece magnetic metal shell with a three-tone camouflage paint scheme throughout the exterior, opening with a functional hinge to reveal a hollow interior, in turn fastening closed with a retractable clip, each end retaining a magnetic metal loop for the accommodation of an olive-drab canvas carrying strap, one end bearing a white highlighted inscription of “LAUF-SCHÜTZER 42” and a partially-legible maker’s code with a date of “43”, measuring 58 cm in total length, the exterior camouflage is likely a refurbishment consistent with postwar usage, while the unspoiled interior demonstrates some surface oxidation, an accessory to one of the most iconic machine guns of the Second World War, in better than very fine condition.
