(Wehrmacht Gasmaske M30 und Tornister). An extremely well-preserved Wehrmacht M30 gas mask, constructed of olive-drab rubberized canvas with eyepieces consisting of aluminum frames with transparent lenses, retaining all elasticized straps and buckles, fitted with an olive-drab painted magnetic metal filter and cover, the former bearing a maker’s code of “BYD” for Heinrich & Bernhard Dräger, Gasschutzgeräte, Lübeck, with a manufacture date of “41”, and the latter stamped with manufacture date of “APRIL 1942”, with the mask’s muzzle also bearing a raised code of “A3B”, indicating manufacture by Auer, Berlin, accompanied by its period original canister, constructed of an olive-drab painted magnetic steel shell, retaining an integral canvas carrying strap, featuring a retractable lid with a spring-loaded strap closure, opening to reveal a compartment set into the lid retaining spare lenses in their original packaging, the lid stamped with a manufacture date of “1939”, a maker’s logo, and a partially-legible Waffenamt stamp, measuring 12 cm (w) x 27.5 cm (h), demonstrating minor and age-appropriate material fatigue to both components, a superb example with wartime owner modifications to components reflecting battlefield use, in near extremely fine condition.
