Germany, Wehrmacht. A Panzer Assault Badge, Silver Grade, Late-War Type E by Wilhelm Deumer

(Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, surrounding a Panzer IV rolling over grassy terrain, with its left tread extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse hollow, with an oval-shaped crimped hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid, using the firm’s Type E configuration, measuring 41.43 mm (w) x 60.26 mm (h), weighing 16.3 grams, demonstrating near-total loss of silver finish throughout the base metal, a late-war badge in better than very fine condition.
