Germany, Wehrmacht. A Pair of Badges for Combat Service

(Wehrmacht Abzeichen). A pair of badges, including:

1. An Infantry Assault Badge, Bronze Grade, constructed of bronzed zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, diagonally across the badge is a Karabiner 98k rifle with the bayonet attached and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle, the reverse with a flattened and rounded catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of the B.H. Mayer/Otto Schickle design, measuring 47.20 mm (w) x 62.36 mm (h), weighing 12.5 grams, total loss of finish is evident to the base metal, the hinge and pinback are missing, and there is a crack to the right side where the wreath meets the rifle butt, in fair condition.

2. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “30” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 36.22 mm (w) x 43.76 mm (h), weighing 26.0 grams, total loss of finish is visible to the base metal, in very fine condition.
