Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mixed Lot of Awards

(Auszeichnungen). A mixed lot of Wehrmacht awards, including:

1. A War Merit Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR KRIEGSVERDIENST 1939” (“FOR WAR MERIT 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.18 mm in diameter, weighing 12.6 grams, in near mint condition.

2. A Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service Award, constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse bearing a raised number “4” situated within a circular oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 30.36 mm in diameter, weighing 12.8 grams, in better than very fine condition.

3. A Krim Shield, constructed of bronzed zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates “1941-1942”, affixed with all four reverse attachment prongs to a non-magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner indicating Heer issue, the reverse retaining an intact black paper liner, unmarked, the shield measuring 52.20 mm (w) x 62.00 mm (h), demonstrating total loss of finish to the base metal, in very fine condition.
