Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mint 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross I Class, with Case, Type A by B.H. Mayer

(Wiederholungsspange 1939 zum Eisernen Kreuz I. Klasse 1914 - 2. Form mit Etui). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1940-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn situated above a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939” on a pebbled field, the reverse with a barrel hinge and flattened vertical pinback meeting a rounded and flattened catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by B.H. Mayer, Pforzheim, using the firm’s Type A design, measuring 44.25 mm (w) x 30.45 mm (h), weighing 9.5 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a silvered depiction of the award, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted black velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 65 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), a striking set in near mint condition.
