Germany, Wehrmacht. A Marsh Pattern Camouflage Face Mask

(Wehrmacht Gesichtstarnmaske). A well-preserved Wehrmacht-issue camouflage face mask, constructed of multiple panels of cotton/rayon blended cloth. The exterior is dyed in a classic Sumpftarnmuster (marsh/swamp pattern) camouflage, with a mottle consisting of a primarily olive-drab base overlaid by irregular splotches of brown and dark green with blurred edges, interspersed with dark green splinters. Three straps are distributed around the edge of the face, all stitched into dual loops. Reinforced slashes for the accommodation of the eyes and mouth are visible, with a panel situated between the nose and mouth featuring eight reinforced eyelets for ventilation. The reverse features a grey wool liner for maximum comfort in cold weather, while three cotton drawstrings are set into the edges for attachment to the wearer’s head. Unmarked, the mask measures approximately 20 cm (w) x 24 cm (l) when unfolded on a flat surface. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, this cross-branch, Wehrmacht-issue mask remains in an extremely fine condition.
