Germany, Third Reich. An Olympic Games Commemorative Medal

(Deutsche Olympia-Erinnerungsmedaille 1936). Instituted 31 July 1936. (1936-1937 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a central raised column, overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, topped by Olympic rings, and flanked by a date of “1936”, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTVOLLE MITARBEIT BEI DEN OLYMPISCHEN SPIELEN 1936” (“FOR MERITORIOUS ASSISTANCE TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES OF 1936”), unmarked, measuring 37.14 mm in diameter, weighing 22.8 grams, demonstrating minor loss of silver finish to the base metal, in near extremely fine condition.
