Germany, Third Reich. A State Service Flag, Dutch-Made Example Retrieved by a Canadian Serviceman

(Reichsdienstflagge). An unusual State Service Flag, constructed of a dyed red cotton base, bearing double-sided central white discs overlaid by ribbed black swastikas, the upper corners of the hoist edge bearing double-sided white NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas, with features and details highlighted in black, with an additional layer of red cotton reinforced the hoist edge and culminating at both corners in integral loops for suspension, the reverse upper hoist corner retaining a maker’s label bearing an inscription of “REGINA BOEKSTEGEN, DEN HAAG NOORDEINDE 52”, measuring 185 cm (w) x 90 cm (h), demonstrating moderate tearing throughout in addition to some soiling and other indicators of wartime display, an unusual Dutch-made example retrieved by a Canadian serviceman present during the liberation of the Netherlands in very fine condition.
