Germany, Third Reich. A Mixed Lot Of Decorations

(Auszeichnungen). A mixed lot of five decorations, including:

1. A War Merit Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “FÜR KRIEGS-VERDIENST 1939” (“FOR WAR MERIT 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.30 mm in diameter, weighing 12.7 grams, in near mint condition.

2. A War Merit Cross II Class, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse bearing a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1939”, unmarked, measuring 48.43 mm (w) x 48.75 mm (h), weighing 18.7 grams, in near mint condition.

3. A War Merit Cross II Class with Swords, constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1939”, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “10” for Förster & Barth, Pforzheim, measuring 49.51 mm (w) x 50.52 mm (h), weighing 21.2 grams, demonstrating total loss of bronze finish, in better than very fine condition.

4. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from an original Third Reich-period ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, the suspension loop maker marked “G” for Godet, Berlin, measuring 42.82 mm (w) x 46.44 mm (h), weighing 18.5 grams, with some bending evident to the frame of the twelve o’clock arm, in near extremely fine condition.

5. A Civil Service 25-Year Faithful Service Cross, constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from a period replacement ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central black enameled swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE”), unmarked, measuring 42.27 mm (w) x 46.80 mm (h), weighing 21.2 grams, in extremely fine condition.
