Germany, Third Reich. A Mixed Lot of Awards

(Auszeichnungen). A mixed lot of awards, including:

1. A War Merit Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “FÜR KRIEGSVERDIENST 1939” (“FOR WAR MERIT 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.33 mm in diameter, weighing 14.6 grams, in near mint condition.

2. An Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and toned zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “63” for Franz Klamt & Söhne, Gablonz, measuring 36.26 mm (w) x 44.69 mm (h), weighing 20.1 grams, an example by a rarely-encountered maker in near mint condition.

3. A Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service Award, constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse bearing a wreathed number “4”, unmarked, measuring 30.12 mm in diameter, weighing 12.3 grams, in  extremely fine condition.

4. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for Combatants, constructed of bronzed magnetic iron, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing wreathed dates “1914-1918”, the reverse maker marked with the logo of Reichsverband Pforzheim, measuring 38.16 mm (w) x 43.29 mm (h), weighing 14.8 grams, in extremely fine condition.

5. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for War Bereaved, constructed of blackened magnetic iron, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing wreathed dates “1914-1918”, the reverse maker marked with the logo of Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid, measuring 37.51 mm (w) x 41.23 mm (h), weighing 11.1 grams, in near mint condition.

6. A Civil Service 25-Year Faithful Service Award, constructed of silvered bronze with enamels, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a black enameled swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE”), unmarked, measuring 40.70 mm (w) x 46.17 mm (h), weighing 19.1 grams, in extremely fine condition.

7. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from a Third Reich-period ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, the suspension loop maker marked with the logo of HJ Wilm, Berlin, measuring 43.48 mm (w) x 47.39 mm (h), weighing 18.2 grams, in extremely fine condition.
