Germany, Third Reich. A Mixed Lot of Awards for Military and Civil Service

(Auszeichnungen). A mixed lot of awards, including:

1. A War Merit Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “FÜR KRIEGSVERDIENST 1939” (“FOR WAR MERIT 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.32 mm in diameter, weighing 13.1 grams, in mint condition.

2. A War Merit Cross II Class with Swords, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1939”, unmarked, measuring 48.37 mm (w) x 48.78 mm (h), weighing 2.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.

3. An Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and toned zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, the suspension loop stamped with an illegible maker’s mark, measuring 36.11 mm (w) x 44.32 (h) mm, weighing 18.8 grams, demonstrating some loss of finish, in better than very fine condition.

4. A Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service Medal, constructed of silvered magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with pinback, the obverse bearing a Heer-style German national eagle, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse bearing a wreathed number “4”, unmarked, measuring 30.30 mm in diameter, weighing 14.2 grams (inclusive of ribbon), demonstrating loss of finish to the base metal, in better than very fine condition.

5. A Civil Service 25-Year Faithful Service Award, constructed of silvered bronze with enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a black enameled swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE”), unmarked, measuring 42.24 mm (w) x 46.69 mm (h), weighing 20.9 grams, in mint condition.

6. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for Non-Combatants, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing wreathed dates “1914-1918”, unmarked, measuring 37.98 mm (w) x 42.02 mm (h), weighing 13.2 grams, in near extremely fine condition.

7. An Imperial marksmanship first place victor’s medal, constructed of silvered, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon affixed to a single mount with a horizontal pinback, the reverse engraved, measuring 35 mm in diameter, weighing 24.6 grams, in extremely fine condition.
